I- Introduction
Why Did God Allow Adam’s Sin? A Mystery of Faith
The question of why God allowed Adam to sin is a profound theological question, debated by theologians and philosophers for centuries.
This is one of the mysteries of the Christian faith, which we believers accept by faith. Even if we do not fully understand it, we are called to trust God. We know that He is sovereign and that He has a plan for humanity, even if that plan includes trials and suffering.![]()
Let us pray: O God, open the eyes of our hearts so that we may hear and understand Your word and do Your will.
In the name of Christ! Amen!
II- Reflection
Free Will and the Divine Plan of Redemption
God granted Adam free will, even though He foreknew that Adam would sin. This freedom to choose between obedience and disobedience was essential. If God had forced Adam to obey Him, their love and relationship would not have been genuine. True love implies freedom. God desires a relationship with humanity based on voluntary choice, not coerced obedience.
In the face of the fall of man, which God foresaw, He also had a plan of redemption. This plan was part of His overall purpose to reveal His glory and love through salvation in Christ. God’s Word sheds some light on this issue:
Ephesians 1:4-5 tells us, “4 For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love 5 he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will—”
The Role of Sin in the Revelation of Divine Love
The question arises: Without the fall of man, the result of original sin, could humanity have fully known God’s love? Could humans have fully glorified Him?
God’s purpose is to “create a world in which His glory will be fully revealed.” The purpose of all His creation and all His actions is to glorify Him. The universe was created to reflect God’s glory and His love for the humanity He formed.
If Adam had never had the opportunity to sin, humans would never have had the opportunity to truly “choose God and give Him glory” from the depths of their hearts.
1 Corinthians 10:31 reminds us, “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”.
God respects our choice to sin against Him. However, out of His immense love, He offers us redemption within His overall plan. God’s glory is revealed throughout the entirety of this plan.
III- Conclusion
Why Did God Create Humans, Knowing They Would Sin Against Him?
In short, the answer to this question lies at the very heart of God’s Love, in the gift of free will He gave to man, and in the entirety of His plan of redemption.
Although sin introduced pain and suffering into God’s good creation, it also paved the way for a shining manifestation of His grace, mercy, and infinite love through Jesus Christ.
The story of human creation, fall, and redemption invites each of us to seek a deeply meaningful relationship with our Creator. Therein lies the true essence of human life.![]()
Let us pray: Praised be You, Father, through Your beloved Son and through me, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, today and forever.
In the name of Christ! Amen!![]()
Why God Allowed Adam’s Sin: A Perspective from the Christian Leaders Institute
According to Dr. David Feddes of the Christian Leaders Institute (CLI), God allowed Adam to sin for several profound reasons.
First, it allowed humans to exercise their free will, making their choice to love God truly authentic. A coerced love would not be real love.
Second, Adam’s sin created the opportunity for God to demonstrate His immeasurable grace through the redemption offered by Jesus Christ. Essentially, Adam’s fall set the stage for God’s ultimate act of love: sending His Son to save humanity.
